The UTRGV Baseball team won 4-0 against the Texas A&M Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) Islanders last Tuesday at the Baseball Stadium in Edinburg.
Coming off strong after losing the past game, this was a huge win for the Vaqueros, they showed us how things are going to get done for this upcoming games and future victories.
Coming off strong after losing the previous game, the team’s win put it on the winning column.
Baseball Head Coach Derek Matlock says he has high expectations for the upcoming games for the baseball season.
“We will be the team we need to become in about 8-10 games but so far we’re fine and over all pretty excited about it”.
For the spring break week, we have the starting game on Tuesday (Tomorrow) against the Incarnate Word Cardinals at San Antonio and for Friday, Saturday and Sunday we have UTRGV vs Tarleton Baseball which will take place at Stephenville, TX.
Matlock explained to Vaquero Radio how the team will not be affected by the spring break vacation in a negative way but in a positive one.
“The guys enjoy playing baseball and not worrying about their studies”
The athletes do not have to worry anymore about the academic responsibilities, and they can focus on keeping the hard work done, most of the players this season are seniors that want to close this stage of college with a flourish.
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Lucas Monroe echoed Matlock’s statement.
“With our Baseball team we don’t have to worry because they will get more freedom and rest this week, but they always remain constant on the training”
Monroe also said no matter the day, no matter the place the vaqueros will continue their training schedule as soon as they get to the game destinations.
According to Matlock, college baseball teams across the country does not has any rest this upcoming week so they’re no rules and the team can train unlimited hours and enjoy playing.
