For the chance to connect with other Vaqueros, Campus Activities Board hosted the Pitch Perfect movie on both Edinburg and Brownsville campuses as a part of Welcome Week 2024

Student Program Advisor for Campus Activities Board Sam Camarillo Solfest said the showing was a part of the Welcome Week Series, with free popcorn, snacks and drinks for the attendees.

“The idea for this event was just to welcome everyone back with a big movie showing,” Camarillo said. “It was just a fun way for people to socialize and de-stress during a stressful time, which is the welcome back time period.”

He said the preparations were not as simple as just playing a movie.

“We can’t just stream a movie,” Camarillo siad. “We have to go through the licensing rights that go into actually showing a movie on campus. So, that means us going to different companies trying to see where we can get our best price.”

Early childhood education sophomore Arlene Camacho said she was thrilled to see the movie.

“It was amazing,” Camacho said. “It’s one of my favorite movies so I’m glad they showed it.”

Music education sophomore Jacob Martinez said it was a nice opportunity to watch more movies.

“I would like to see more stuff like this,” Martinez said.

Camarillo said many events are coming up in February especially with Homecoming Week.

CAB will be partnering with Student Activities to host the Homecoming parade. Other activities include an honor charreada and Valentines Day event.

“I just encourage everyone to come to our events and have fun,” he said. “It’s a great way to meet new people and it’s a great way to stay involved in your community.”
