TimelyCare is a free mobile application where UTRGV students can have access to 24/7 mental health support.
The application offers online-only services. The services offered are TalkNow, Schedule Counseling, Health Coaching, Peer Community, Self-Care Content, Psychiatry and Basic Needs Support.
The services can be conducted through text, phone calls or video chat.
Christopher Albert, director of the UTRGV Counseling Center, explains the function of TalkNow and Schedule Counseling.
“TalkNow is on-demand emotional support,”Albert said. “It’s through text. It’s through phone or through video chat. It is 24/7. So, not just Monday through Friday to 5 [p.m.], but also on the weekends in the evening.
TimelyCare has numerous licensed counselors from Texas.
Albert said if students were to leave the state, the Counseling Center would try to contact a licensed counselor from the state the students will reside at. However, if students were to move to Mexico or a different country, they would be unable to access the Schedule Counseling feature on the app.
The director explains a different service TimelyCare provides, which is Health Coaching.
“A student can connect with a certified health coach to learn about stress management, diet eating, healthy diet and eating, how to get good sleep, good sleep habits and so on,” he said.
According to Albert, the Peer Community feature in TimelyCare helps give students a sense of community and support.
The director added he encourages students who may need help with mental health and well being to download TimelyCare.
