This past Monday, October, 4th through Wednesday, October 6th UTRGV Women’s Golf traveled to Las Cruces, NM for the New Mexico State Aggie Golf Invitational.
The event was hosted by New Mexico State University and was attended by 20 different institutions. Among these 20, UTRGV Women’s Golf placed 13th with a total score of 910. UTRGV finishes ahead of rival Western Athletic Conference (WAC) teams Stephen F. Austin (19th) and future WAC team Southern Utah (T-16th).
The Vaquero’s also finished just below WAC newcomer Dixie State who placed T-11th, and placed two slots above longtime UTRGV rival Texas A&M Corpus Christi who placed 15th.
UTRGV Sophomore Sophia Tejeda placed highest for the Vaquero’s individually, coming in tied at 22nd. Fellow Sophomore Mercedes Vega placed next highest for the Vaqueroes at 47th. Next was Sophomore Samantha Garza at 53rd, then Freshman Maria Jose Ramirez at 59th, and finally Graduate Student Rachel Yu at 102nd.
Incarnate Word would go on to win the team title with a total score of 863 through three rounds, and would also take the individual title as Ellen Nicholas recorded a score of 208 through three rounds.
The Vaquero’s will compete next at the Pat Bradley Invitational held by Florida International University. The event will be from Saturday, October 16th through Monday, October 18th in Sarasota, FL at the Lakewood Ranch Golf Club.
